The Shuisen PR315500-LH Attic Ladder Kit Power Arm Assembly is designed to replace the left-hand hinge of Louisville attic ladders. The package includes 1 PR315500-LH hinge arm, which requires two people for installation. It is recommended to have strong arms if only one person is installing it.

To install the hinge arm, first ensure that the stairway is in the closed position. One person should be in the attic, while the other should be on the ground floor to place a temporary 2x4 support opposite the hinge end of the stairway to secure it in the closed position. With the temporary support in place, remove the tension springs by unscrewing the nut from the carriage bolt attached to the side rail of the top section of the unit. Drive the bolt out to free the power arm assembly.

To replace the power arm assembly, position the new pivot plate in the same location as the previous one and drill a 1/4" hole through the pivot plate holes that are not used by the rivets. Secure the pivot plate with lag screws through the stairway frame and into the ceiling joist. Reattach the power arm to the climbing section with the bolt and nut that was removed earlier. Repeat the process for the opposite side of the stairway.

Once both power arms are replaced, close the stairway and reposition the temporary support under the door. Re-install the tension springs and remove the temporary support. The stairway is now ready for use.
